Hoses and Hose Clamps

Hoses and electric cables can chafe, not just by touching sharp corners, but by touching and rubbing against each other. Vibration through either sailing and/or motoring combined with the sea motion will cause more damage than can be imagined. It is always advised to provide anti-chafe guards in suspected areas.

Other typical areas of chafing are bulkhead through hulls, next to wrong and incorrectly installed hose clamps, areas under the engines, around engine mounts, parts of hose clamps, and screw heads.  These may be overlooked because of the newness or apparent good condition of a vessel and/or they are not easily visualized.
