| Engines should be
cleaned of any drips or other runs. When an engine and engine room is not clean, chafe
and/or leaks may not be identified early enough to prevent problems. I recommend running
engines a minimum of 15-20 minutes a week, depending on type. Consult a qualified marine
engine mechanic. When the engine heats up inside and the outside is still cold, it
will cause condensation. Overtime this condensation will damage the
engine. When the engine is hot, I recommend using WD-40 type lubricant to spray
components. The metal absorbs the protective shield and when the engine cools down
the pores are closed and the engine is protected better. This I learned in the Navy
and used it on 104G engines and other air planes. I suggest re-applying areas that
have additional corrosion until the dry rust spots absorb the oil. Most people do
not check their engine, generator oil or transmission levels. I highly recommended
doing this inspection before starting the systems.
