  The Surveyor and his function:

A survey is REQUIRED in the transaction of a boat's purchase, finance and insurance negotiation. All parties connected with the transaction require an expert, in-depth examination and a comprehensive report, in writing, on the condition of the vessel in question. A surveyor's function, therefore, is to examine a vessel for safety and valuation -- with objectivity and without bias.  He should be willing to offer constructive advice to the potential boat owner.

Experience with insurance claims, past associations in the installation and repair, and being an active yachtsman sharpens a surveyor's insight and knowledge.
